Announcing the good news of the program,
“Whoever learns logic for a month (shahran) lives forever (dahran)”
(a saying among members of the Zawiya Sulukiya Institute—opposing and against its inherited counterpart: whoever learns logic for a month becomes a heretic forever)
All praise is due to Allah and He Suffices, and may prayers and peace be upon our Master Muhammad the Chosen, and his Family and Companions, the people of loyal devotion.
With the end of the Hijri year near at hand, the Zawiya Sulukiya Institute announces its final resolution for the year 1436 and is passing on the good news to those who revere the thinking mind, and those who bear the burden of education for generations of people of Allah—education of the mind and heart, of contemplation (fikr) and remembrance (dhikr).
The Zawiya Sulukiya staff have recently finished a meeting of collective study and inquiry into a program of teaching logic for children. The meeting was concluded with the following resolutions:
1 – The Zawiya is to open a program of teaching logic for children beginning at the age of 11
2 – Training parents and teachers in developing the minds of students with rational education and with spiritual purification
3 – The Zawiya is to write a curriculum for ‘Logic for Children’ to be adopted by Muslim schools in western countries
4 – Making the members of Islamic schools and Masjid study-circles aware of the importance of logic for children and assisting them in teaching it
The following needy servants (fuqara) of Allah will manage the program:
The slave of his Lord, the needy servant, Abu Mouiz: General Management and Direction
The needy servant, Ustadh Shabeer – Specialist in Philosophy and Mathematics: Teaching and Training
The needy servant, Ustadh Muhammad – Specialist in Education, Philosophy, and Sociology: Direction and Academic Support
the needy servant, the student Muhammad: Administrative Management, and the Collection and Transcription of Articles
May Allah give success to the Muslims in the east and west in the organisation and development of intellects, and in the education (tarbiya) and purification of souls. And “whoever learns logic for a month (shahran) lives forever (dahran).”
We pray that we and you remain in His care, and all praise is for Allah firstly and lastly.

[Narrated by Muslim]
Shaykh Ibn Ata’illah said in his book ‘Taj al-‘Arus’:
‘Whoever has missed out on much (suprerogatory) fasting and praying, then let him busy himself with prayer on the Messenger of Allah
; for truly if you were to spend your entire life in every type of worship, and Allah prays once on you, that prayer from Him would overcome all the worship that you had done in your life; because you pray as far as your ability, whereas He prays according to His Lordship and Generosity.’
The Zawiya Sulukiya Institute hosts a weekly Circle of prayer on the Prophet
(Majlis Salawat) each Friday afternoon after ‘asr. More circles are set to be open around Melbourne.

By the grace of Allah, the thematic reading of Imam Shihab al-Deen al-Suhrawardi’s blessed book, ‘Awarif al-Ma’arif, begun at the beginning of Ramadan 1436 AH, was completed on the 20th night of the blessed month.
Our beloved Shaykh Abu Mouiz, may Allah preserve him, presented the attendees with a home-made ‘beehive’ cake in celebration of the completion, and in the hope that like a family of bees, Muslims around the world would assist and cooperate with one another at the highest level of organisation and civilisation.
Each year, the Zawiya Sulukiya Institute has organised special Ramadan circles. In past years, a number of books have been studied, including Minhaj al-Qasidin by Ibn Qudama al-Maqdisi (a summary of Imam al-Ghazali’s Ihya), al-Fath al-Rabbani by Abdul Qadir Jaylani, and other books.
This year, our dear Shaykh Abu Mouiz, may Allah preserve him, has chosen for us the book Awarif al-Ma’arif by Imam Shihab al-Deen Abu Hafs Umar al-Suhrawardi, one of the greatest books in the science of Tasawwuf and the knowledge of spiritual purification.
Join us for a thematic reading and explanation of this tremendous book each night after tarawih prayers at the Fatih Mosque (31 Nicholson Street, Coburg, Victoria).
Unfortunately this particular circle is only available for brothers due to lack of available space.
More on the Author
Imam Shihab al-Deen Abu Hafs Umar al-Suhrawardi (d. 632 AH) was a foremost Islamic scholar with special expertise as a Faqeeh (legal scholar) and Muhaddith (Hadith narrator), as well as a prominent spiritual master.
He was a student of the likes of Abdul Qadir Jaylani and Abu al-Najeeb al-Suhrawardi, his uncle; and he was a teacher of the likes of ‘Izz ibn Abd al-Salaam, ‘the Sultan of the Awliya and the Ulama‘.
Toward the end of his long life of scholarship and service, he wrote the renowned ‘Awarif al-Ma’arif’, a systematic elucidation of the science of Tasawwuf as understood from the original sources of Islam.
The Zawiya Sulukiya Institute congratulates all Muslims upon the arrival of the sacred month of Ramadan. We pray that it be a blessed time of guidance, unity and relief for all our brothers and sisters around the world.
